  1. Create a Reload button/signal

    It would be nice to have a reload button in order to launch generate a .4da with some data, changing the data with an external program and just reloading them (camera calibration, images, mesh...). Even better, having the possibility to send a "signal" to the viewer from an external program to ask him to reload.

    • Fix Znear Zfar for large meshes

      There needs to be a bounding box calculation and some kind of setSceneRadius() as in QGLViewer

        It compiles fine with the dependencies in place, but the application doesn't run, in fact it seems that it's just the wrong type of app for OS X

        • Automated the process of creating a sequence for reading off file

          Currently, a sequence (xml or binary) file has to be prepared for visualization in the 4d-viewer. If a user wants to just see a mesh (OFF) file he has to manually create an empty sequence file containing the mesh. This process can be automated, and the file-dialog can be modified to read OFF files directly. An empty sequence file can be built by the program in the background.

          • Wrapper functions

            Simple wrapper functions can be provided for converting other mesh-objects (PLY, OBJ, WML) into the formats recognized by the 4d-viewer (OFF / COFF). There is a format in Geomview for visualizing point-sets and polyline-sets (VECT). But this format is not intuitive and difficult to use. A wrapper function can be provided for converting from this format to PCLOUD or LCLOUD format, after we agree on it. I have written some wrappers already as PERL scripts, but we can place such scripts in a single downloadable location.

              This way the user can see various informations about the sequence, including (but not only, I let you comment on this) the following :
              - number of frame
              - number of camera
              - type of mesh (color, texture, ...)
              - average size of meshes (nb of verticies, faces, ...)

              • Adding cloud of points format support

                Many people work with a cloud of points. These points can be visualized as spheres (balls) of a prescribed size and color. We can agree on a simple file format (PCLOUD) and provide an option of loading this into the viewer.

                • Adding cloud of line segments support

                  Some people work with a cloud of line segments. They are useful for visualizing point trajectories over time, for showing correspondences between meshes, for showing the skeleton of a mesh etc. These line-segments can be visualized as closed cylinders of a prescribed thickness and color. A simple file format can be agreed (LCLOUD) and these can be loaded into the viewer.

                    Using dynamic texture mapping is complex and heavy on storage requirements. A simple texture-atlas with texture coordinates computed for each vertex will be much faster to render. It will be good if this option for texture mapping is provided in the viewer.

                    • Adding the capability to record screencast (movies - image sequence)

                      It will be convenient to provide a "record" button for storing a movie (or image sequence) of what's being displayed in the viewer as the user manipulates the camera angle while a mesh-animation is running. This will be convenient for producing videos for conferences and presentations.

                            If an automatic camera-panning can be provided (for example, moving the viewing camera around the bounding-box of a mesh object smoothly by 360 degrees) while a mesh animation is running, this will be very convenient for showing results and making videos for conferences

                            • Grouping a subset of objects into a "group"

                              Currently each individual sequence object can be manipulated (translate/rotate/scale) or the entire set of sequence objects can be manipulated in one shot. It will be very convenient if a tool is provided for grouping a subset of objects into a "group" and operations be done on this group (and not on any object outside the group).
